I Love Writing
Weaving a little word magic...
It’s only been a week, and a few posts, but having this new space to share my words has really re-ignited my love of writing.
Over the last few months, with so much going on in other areas of my life, even though writing was always on my To Do list, it felt like it had become a bit of a weight.
Something that I wanted to do, but that wasn’t necessarily as much of a priority as other things, or easily slipped to the bottom of the pile in favour of bitty busyness.
But I love writing.
I love the opportunity it gives me to get thoughts out of my head and onto a page.
I love the ways I can meander around a subject that’s caught my curiosity.
I love how it can become an outlet for processing emotions.
I love the creative possibilities it holds for storytelling, whether they’re grounded in reality, or pure imagination.
I love the idea that there might be someone out there reading my words for whom they deeply resonate and make some sort of difference in their life.
I love that I can use writing as a way of exercising my voice, expressing my personality, and strengthening my confidence.
And I love that actually, I can write here with no plan, no expectations, no need for it to be anything more than it is, and that’s still OK, and more than enough.
I have a lot of writing - both handwritten in various notebooks and journals and scraps of paper and post-it notes, and files on my computer - in many stages of development.
From single sentences as reminders of the beginning of something, short scenes, a few chapters, a serialised novella, to a full, 100k word manuscript for a novel.
And I’ve been re-inspired and motivated to re-visit many of them to check in and get a feel for what wants to happen with them.
There’s one that I’m planning to enter into a writing competition.
There are several that I hope I can get back to in the near future.
And then there’s the novel.
It’s this that I’ve decided to devote some time to. To read it through and remind myself of the story, and the characters. And to start editing it towards a state where it might be fit for other people to read it.
To think about publishing it.
To seeing the project through to completion, with a book that I’ve written out in the world and available for people to buy.
It feels huge.
And a little bit scary.
But mostly exciting.
And so far, I still love the story I wrote, which has got to be a good start.
I’m thinking about sharing more of my writing journey here, the steps along the way, and maybe the odd sneak peek or two.
Would you like to see that?
If you would, let me know in the comments.
Please share this post too, so that other people can find me and my writing.
(And if not…well, maybe my writing just isn’t for you. That’s OK too.)

I get so excited when I hear other people excited about writing! Truly! So bring it on, I'd love to hear more about your writing life here. And I'm so excited to know you're moving forward with your novel. Yay!
